As busy adults, there will always be periods of time when we can’t access our Essential Gaming Devices. Recently, I went almost two months without access to my PC (gasp!) while I was on my honeymoon and subsequently moved countries. The travel was beautiful and fun, but I was honestly going a little stir-crazy. What kept me sane was phone games! I even played some of these games on my 11-hour long flight, which was a lifesaver.
Love Nikki

Starting off with a controversial take, Love Nikki: Dress UP Queen is a gacha game where you play as Nikki, who has been isekai-ed into a world where people fight with their fashion rather than their fists. I have a lot of fun in this game even without spending money and I’ve been playing it religiously for the last year or so. It’s great for a little dopamine hit in the morning. Plus, the clothes are so beautiful.
If you find yourself enjoying Love Nikki and its lore, you can also play the recently released open world version, Infinity Nikki on your phone or PC, but my phone doesn’t have quite enough space for that.
Teamfight Tactics

I know, I know, I never shut up about TFT. But this strategy game isn’t just for people with computers! Despite some complaints, the mobile UI is perfectly usable. TFT matches last around 25-40 minutes depending on how well you are playing, so it’s perfect for when you’ve missed a bus or just need to take a breather.
Terraria

Did you know Terraria is on mobile? I love playing this 2D survival crafting game on the plane. The day-night cycle makes it easy to enter that “one more day” zone that keeps you playing for hours. Before you know it, you’ve defeated the Eater of Worlds and your flight is landing. The only issue is that it’s not free, but it might as well be at $5, especially considering the sheer number of hours you can put into it!
Pokémon Go

A classic, of course. When on holiday, I love playing Pokémon Go to help me explore! Routes are super useful to see where the local gamers are really going, and gyms are a great way to suss out a city’s local hotspots. Plus, it’s a great social game that you can play with your travel partners!
What games do you play when you’re on the go, whether you’re on a school trip, city break, on holiday, or on your honeymoon like me? I’d love to add new casual games to my repertoire, so let me know in the comments!
